Solar Photovoltaic Desalination Unit

The Solar Photovoltaic Desalination Unit (SPDU) is part of the solution to major current problems regarding water scarcity in Mexico, supplying drinking water to underserved communities that do not have this resource and have no access to electricity network. These communities are located mostly in coastal areas that have easy access to brackish water, either through beach wells or directly from the sea.

The operation of the prototype is primarily based on the harnessing of solar energy with photovoltaic panels, providing electrical power to its components. Once energized, the equipment is operated by reverse osmosis.
SPDU has been installed in rural communities near the coast of Baja California, achieving the desalination of seawater and providing fresh water for domestic use.

Currently, the prototype is operating in the facilities of Secretaria de Fomento Agropecuario of Baja California, improving the quality of the irrigation water used in demonstrative greenhouses, thus, increasing the harvest of their crops.
